Careerbreaker Destinations - New For 2007 - Costa Rica
Bordering Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south east and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east; this small truly beautiful country whilst covering only 0.1% of the world’s mass contains 5% of its bio-diversity.

This is a country with much to offer wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts. The climate is tropical, cooler in mountainous areas and offers visitors outstanding beaches with great surfing, million year old rainforests, opportunity to climb active volcanoes, go white water rafting or simply enjoy the magical mists of dawn and twilight and colourful breathtaking sunsets.

Over 25% of Costs Rica is protected; mysterious cloud forests are home to numerous species of flora and fauna, vehemently protected, against the advances of ranching and agriculture, by the Costa Rican government’s progressive attitude to conserving its natural assets. Home to over 600 different species of birds, big cats, tapirs, turtles, tropical plants, flowers and orchids it really is a nature lover’s paradise.

A politically stable country Costa Rica has avoided the historic violence and extremes of poverty seen by some of its Central American neighbours. Costa Rica, which is Spanish for “rich coast” has a traditional and strong economy based on its fertile land, agricultural and more recently eco-tourism. Most of the population is of European descent and there are significant communities of African Bantu, Jamaican and Chinese; less than 1% of the population is indigenous; Costa Rican culture owes much to Spanish influence. Whilst English is increasingly being used in the burgeoning eco-tourist industry Spanish and English-Creole are the two main languages.

The projects being investigated for early 2007 are varied and valuable conservation projects.
