Considering your loved ones and dependants
Managing these circumstances and relationships is really a personal matter for every individual but it will help those that are close to you if you can give them as much information as possible about your trip and how you can keep in touch.
The main thing to ensure is that you can optimise communication with loved ones whilst you’re away. Make sure any mobile phone you take with you will work in your chosen destination/s or you know how to make calls home. Ensure that family members have access to and know how to use e-mail so you can keep in touch. Remember that on a Careerbreaker project we can pass on any urgent or important news through our UK and overseas network of staff.
If you are somebody’s main carer you need to ensure for your own peace of mind as well as theirs, that the right people and resources are available to replace the care you provide.
Pets
If you can’t find a generous friend or relative to care for your pet whilst you’re away there you will need to look at paying for pet-sitting or a kennel/cattery service.
On your return home
Remember you will probably experience an initial high on your return followed by a slight case of the ‘blues’, keep busy, sort your photographs into albums and make sure you catch up on the developments in your friends and families lives. The ‘blues’ will be short-lived and you will have a reinvigorated ‘you’ who can now say “ I did that” instead of “ I could do that”, to tackle whatever life throws at you or to start planning your next trip with!
