Work Placements - Orphanage and Carework - Ghana
Home to quite possibly the friendliest people on the planet, Ghana is an incredibly welcoming and fascinating country. Politically and economically stable, Ghana is as yet untouched by the effects of mass tourism. The country offers a mix of tribal cultures and stunning landscapes that will take your breath away.
Careerbreaker Volunteer Work Placements is based in the town of Ho, capital of the Volta Region. Home to Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in the world, this region is characterised by rolling hills, mango plantations and waterfalls. It is simply stunning.
Ho is a relatively large town and has a large market, tro-tro and bus station, a good internet café, two hotels with swimming pools that are open to daily visitors, and a number of chop bars (local ‘restaurants’), spot bars (to buy a cold soft drinks or beers), small shops and stalls that sell all the necessary essentials.
Careerbreaker is offering limited places to work at a small orphanage in Ho throughout August and September this year. These special summer placements have been arranged to provide extra help at the Dr Asase Memorial Children’s Home during the school holidays. Whilst the children are not away at school, the home needs extra help to keep the children busy, happy and well cared for.
Volunteers will be helping out with the day to day running of the orphanage. With the children ranging from 2 to 12 years of age, their levels of care will vary. You may be helping the older children with their learning, or arranging fun games and activities. Those interested in sport could help organise outdoor games.
No experience is required for these placements, but a caring and responsible attitude is essential.
