Work Placements - Orphanage and Carework
If you love working with children a Careerbreaker Volunteer Orphanage and Carework Placement could be one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.

No experience or qualifications are required for these placements, although if you are hoping to teach, a TEFL qualification is recommended. In Peru you will also need a basic grasp of Spanish. We can arrange TEFL and intensive language courses prior to your project if desired.

Careerbreaker work in orphanages and children’s centres across the developing world. The children in these homes are there for a variety of reasons, but they have one thing in common, they all need the safety and care that these homes represent. The centres where we work are often understaffed and overstretched. For this reason, the most important thing our volunteers can provide is time - time to teach and play with the children, and to give them the one to one attention they deserve.

As a volunteer you could be teaching the children, working as a classroom assistant to improve their English, or helping to get the younger children bathed and into bed. In some cases simply playing with the children, devising fun and educational games, will be the main priority.
It is important to remember that these children often come from troubled backgrounds. They may be orphans to HIV / AIDS, have been abandoned because their parents can’t afford to keep them, or be escaping pasts of violence, prostitution and drug abuse. The work in these homes is therefore as challenging as it is rewarding.
