Community Development Projects - Tanzania
The largest country in East Africa Tanzania is a land of spectacular game reserves and the dusty savannah grasslands of the Serengeti, wide expansive palm fringed beaches and the snowcapped peaks of Kilimanjaro. It’s also home to the colourful, fragrant and mystical spice islands of Zanzibar, across the Indian Ocean.

With over 1500 species of birds and the continents biggest mammal population, up to 40% of Tanzania falls under some form of protection. The climate has distinct rainy and dry seasons but is always hot and humid on the coast and lakesides and more temperate in the highlands.

Tanzania’s official language is Swahili (Kiswahili), which is generally spoken, and various local languages abound. Kiswahili is the language the primary schools teach in. English is the second official language Tanzania's culture is a fascinating mix as a result of African, Arab, European and Indian influences. The African people of Tanzania represent about 120 tribal groups.

Mountainous in the north east, the great Lakes of Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika are found to the north west, whilst the centre is a large plateau of plains and farming land.

Tanzania remains one of the poorest countries in the world, despite its attractions and relatively stable history, with over half of the 40 million population living below the World Bank poverty line.

Careerbreaker Community Development Projects are currently based in rural communities in the north, in the breathtaking ancient tropical rainforests of the Usambara Mountains. Working with local NGO’s and friendly local communities the key focus of our programmes is to provide education facilities and support.
