Community Development Projects - Uganda
Moved by the country’s great beauty, Winston Churchill described Uganda as the ‘Pearl of Africa’ during his visit in 1907. This beauty strikes travellers to the country to this day.
A lush green land, with amazing scenery, incredible wildlife and birdlife, (including the ‘Big Five’) and Africa’s greatest lake, Lake Victoria. This truly is a beautiful country with amazing mountain forests home to Uganda’s most popular attraction – Mountain Gorillas. Straddle the equator in this breathtaking country; visit the source of the Nile and challenge yourself to traverse the white water rapids; or experience the terrifying ‘Nile High’ Bungee jump. Visit the capital, Kampala and go quad biking in Bujagali. This is the perfect destination for the active traveller!
Despite relative stability and economic growth and one of the few success stories in the reduction in the spread of HIV and Aids in Africa, Uganda still has many problems. Following years of political troubles, violence and economic collapse in the 70s and 80’s over half of the population continues to live below the World Bank poverty line.
Our rural Community Development Projects are based near Jinja, a small town on the banks of Lake Victoria, approximately an hour and half from Kampala. In and around Jinja we work with local NGO’s on community based initiatives, to help provide much needed infrastructure and support.
The people are incredibly friendly and are genuinely happy to help. You cannot help but be affected by the warmth of your hosts so much so that people who spend time here often do not want to leave.
