Volunteer Sports Projects - Football - Fiji
With its palmed-fringed beaches, world famous surfing competitions, colourful nightlife, and wonderful hospitality, many visitors to Fiji often end up staying longer than they had originally planned!

Sport is more a way of life than a pastime to the people of Fiji. The sports pitch is now seen as the arena where the old warrior culture can be put into practice. The passion for one’s community or team to succeed is fierce and makes for playing sport here an intense affair. Once you’ve experienced a competitive game here, anything else will just feel tame.

Careerbreaker works with teams and communities where the opportunity to play and be trained by coaches would not normally be there. You will be training junior teams in some of the many clubs in and around Suva, Fiji's cosmopolitan capital. Being part of a team gives youngsters a sense of achievement and belonging, as well as a lot of excitement. Careerbreaker is seeking to harness the energy for sport in this country and turn it into something positive for both individuals and their communities.

We attach our coaches to the Fijian F.A.’s development officers who work in schools around Suva coaching and promoting the game. There is also the opportunity to train and play for a local team and for those who are good enough a chance to play for the Eastern District; remember get your release from your local F.A. if you intend to play!

Anyone who has coached at a higher level will likely be asked to work with a junior district side, or a local men’s team. The football season starts in February/March and runs through to August.

Whilst on your placement you will be living in the Careerbreaker house in the suburbs of Suva. You will be sharing a room with up to six others, with communal areas for relaxing after coaching and training. The house will have electricity, TV, hot showers and a well equipped kitchen. You will need an Australasian adaptor for any electrical items you intend to plug in.

Meals will be a team effort using a mix of local and Western food. There may also be a local cook to give you a taste of local dishes.

At weekends there will be the opportunity to leave Suva and visit some of the islands and beaches that Fiji is famous for. As Fiji is a tourist destination, there are plenty of activities on offer, such as diving, jet skiing, kayaking and snorkeling, or you could choose to get down to some serious relaxation on a beach.
