The majority of people that take their career breaks with us are in their late twenties to well into retirement age! Whilst our trips are geared at people who have some or a even a lifetime’s working or family experience, there is no definite lower or upper age limit; although younger traditional ‘gappers’ and students generally prefer to travel with their contemporaries and do so with our sister company Madventurer.
For the majority of our trips you don’t need to have specialist skills and unlike younger travellers you will already have more life experience to bring to your career break, which will greatly benefit you and your host community. Whether you’re single, in a couple or group we can help you to plan the right Careerbreaker itinerary for you.
The reasons for taking a career break vary enormously but generally it’s because there is a desire to challenge yourself, escape the routine, learn more about yourself and the world, get over a difficult period in your life, enhance your CV , explore what it is you might really want from life, try something totally different, see a bit of the world, do something great with an unexpected windfall, learn a new skill, fulfil a long-held dream, scratch your itchy feet or simply beat the kids at their own game!
For many of our volunteer placements no academic qualifications or specific experience are needed, you simply need a willingness to get involved and enjoy! Other volunteer placements will give you the chance to learn new skills or share your professional expertise.
The only pre-requisite is that you are in reasonable health and are happy for us to request references and run a Criminal Records Bureau check if you are likely to be working with children or vulnerable people.
